D4D Open Data
Orange is a mobile network with operations in Ivory Coast. It released
datasets containing Call Detail Records (CDRs) of 3 months of traffic.
The release was part of the Orange's -Data for Development -- D4D- - an
open data challenge. It aimed to attract data scientists to look into
the data with the purpose of helping address society development
issues in novel ways.
A multidisciplinary team joined forces with Paradigma, the Spanish
research council CSIC and the Universidad Complutense. We developed
spatio-temporal models to detect patterns in the attributes of each
region. The models were then correlated with layers of geographical
information including factors like presence of infrastructures,
wealth, development indicators, etc.
