SESSION LEVEL: Intermediate SESSION LANGUAGE: English "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life" - Confusius What would you say if I told you that I told my complete company of over 80 people to do whatever they liked, and the owner of the company fully agreed and supported me? What if I told you that we had a week of great fun, even so much fun that people brought in their kids on their day off because they didn't want to miss it? I like to tell stories, and this is the story on how I hacked my way into Agility. With a couple of weeks of preparation, we pulled of a Hackathon of a complete WEEK and all the non-ICT departments joined. I would like to share with you how I made it possible and give some tips and tricks on how to make people move and benefit from it. I will also give you an insight on the renewed Scrum Values and how I put them into practice. From the talks I've heard / seen lately, these are the most interesting:Lean:The Efficiency Paradox Niklas Modig. The best explanation I know about resource efficiency vs flow efficiency, the base of Lean. The Improvement Kata in 10 Minutes Mike Rother. Good description about this tool.Very interesting Agile methods (updated agile methods I like... remember that the agile manifesto is from 2001 and the some methods as scrum or XP are even older):https://www.agilealliance.org/resources/v...

Back in the days I thought: Agile is just good marketing. A few tools, a bunch of buzzwords, what’s the big deal? In addition to that, I look at my past jobs as a software engineer and there was no Scrum, no Kanban, but it worked. Then I joined OptioPay, built up the IT department and for the first time it stopped working. We were growing as a company but I could feel things were going wrong, I could feel people being unhappy. But I did not possess the tools needed to fix it. As a consequence we brought in help from the outside and started an agile transformation in the beginning of 2016. I’d love to share our story. How we started, what steps we took when we moved to Scrum, the fears and doubts we had, the things we learned on the way, things that went completely wrong and of course all the amazing stuff that happened. Traditionally, business analysts have played the role of translators between the business and the technology worlds. Lean and agile earlier software practices focused on reducing the bottleneck in the development process. Later, frameworks like Scrum focused on how to organise teams in such environments. But the communication gap will not be removed if information goes back and forward from business to technology... Information may be flowing, but is communication really getting through? This talk will focus on how to overcome the lack of communication, define which best practices can help achieve a shared understanding and describe how to develop the feedback loops required to ensure the alignment between business and IT that is so crucial yet so often overlooked.
